Every dog, no matter the breed, is an individual with unique and valuable qualities. Right now, thousands of families have one or more pit bull–type dogs as pets. Roxy the pit bull terrier changed an autistic boy’s life

For every pit bull terrier we place in a home, there’s the potential for him or her to be as special as Roxy, who, with no special training, changed an autistic boy’s life.

Best Friends believes we must fight breed discrimination to Save Them All. We care because wonderful pit bull terrier–like puppies and dogs are languishing in shelters across the country, where they often end up being killed instead of getting adopted. Because pit bull terriers have become so popular, some people are overbreeding them. Others neglect to have their dogs spayed or neutered, resulting in unwanted litters. These two factors have led to an influx of pit bull terrier–like dogs in shelters. When there are a lot of the same types of pets available for adoption, people can easily get overwhelmed when trying to choose one to bring home, and they often end up leaving the shelter without a pet.

Perhaps this breed should have a total name change. UI think it is the name that turns people off. They don[‘t take the time to be with them or trust them to give the love they do. People hear Pit Bulls and they keep going.

Dogs, I believe are like people. How are u raised. Are you loved, are u taught right from wrong, are u rewarded for behaving, are u well fed, are u loved; do u talk to your dog, do u groom him and bathe, do u train him. My point people, what do u do make him/her friendly, safe, and feeling secure. If u are not a good parent, yes I said parent. It reflects.

Pit bulls are taught by their owners to attack. They are starved and beaten to become mean. Pit bull pups who are treated properly rather than abused are very loving dogs. The problem is after years of abuse it is hard to retrain them. I watched through the window when one of my neighbors was putting his pit bull on a short leash, then holding is food just far enough away that he had to chock to get it. Then he beat him and the humane society can do nothing unless they catch them doing it.
